Bush to name Shalala, Dole to head panel investigating Walter Reed
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush will name former Secretary of Health and Human Services Donna Shalala and former GOP presidential nominee Bob Dole to head a commission to investigate problems at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, a senior administration official told CNN Tuesday.

The scandal was triggered by the Washington Post's detailing of substandard conditions and a confusing bureaucracy at an adjunct building used as an outpatient facility to serve soldiers returning from combat in Iraq and Afghanistan.

A formal announcement is to be made by Bush this morning.

Shalala served in the Clinton administration and is currently president of the University of Miami. Dole served as Senate majority leader before his retirement from Congress.
