Pelosi opens Iraq resolution debate
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Saying the "American people have lost faith in President Bush's course of action in Iraq," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, opened a three day debate on the House floor over a resolution condemning the president's proposed troop increase.
"President Bush's escalation proposal will not make America safer, will not make our military stronger, and will not make the region more stable," Pelosi said. "And it will not have my support." The California Democrat also said the resolution should not be taken as a sign that Democrats do not support the troops. As this debate begins, let us be clear on one fundamental principle: We all support the troops," she said. "We honor the service of our troops by asking the difficult questions about this war." -- CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney
