MoveOn targets GOP senators over delay of Iraq debate
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Less than a month after Moveon.org aired ads in New Hampshire hammering Sen. John McCain's support of President Bush's Iraq policy, the liberal group hit the airwaves in several states targeting GOP senators who voted to delay a debate on a resolution condemning an increase of troops in Iraq.

The ad specifically criticizes GOP Sens. John Warner of Virginia, Sam Brownback of Kansas, John Sununu of New Hampshire, Gordon Smith of Oregon, George Voinovich of Ohio, Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, and Elizabeth Dole of North Carolina.

On Monday, a unified GOP caucus successfully used a procedural maneuver to keep Democratic leaders from moving forward with the bipartisan non-binding resolution opposing the president's plan. Warner, the chief Republican sponsor of the non-binding measure opposing the president's plan, voted with his party to delay debate on it.

"A majority of Americans oppose escalation in Iraq," the ad voiceover says as pictures of the individual senators are displayed. "Yet instead of allowing a vote on escalation, the Republicans blocked the debate. They're willing to send tens of thousands more troops to face danger in Iraq, but they don't have the courage to face a vote."

MoveOn.org, who is spending over $130,000 on the ad buy, will air it nationally on CNN and in local markets in New York, the District of Columbia, Kansas, New Hampshire, Maine, and Virginia.
