Hadley: NIE spurred Bush to pursue new strategy in Iraq
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Stephen Hadley, the U.S. national security adviser, said Friday that the information in the latest National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq and the "picture it paints" of the war-torn country caused President Bush to pursue a new strategy in Iraq.
Hadley -- who said the NIE takes a "tough look at Iraq" and "makes clear the challenges we face" -- said the intelligence in the report has been "provided for several months." He was briefing reporters about the report after key judgments in the document were declassified on Friday. President Bush is pursuing an increase of more than 21,000 U.S. troops in Baghdad and in Anbar province. |
