Geffen: I will offer 'strongest possible personal support' for Obama
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- David Geffen, the Hollywood mogul who recently co-hosted a fundraiser for Sen. Barack Obama and made disparaging comments about Sen. Hillary Clinton and former president Bill Clinton, said Wednesday he does not plan to assume an official role in the Obama campaign but is offering the Illinois Democrat his "personal support."
"Despite reports to the contrary, I am not the campaign finance chair and have no formal role in the Obama campaign, nor will I, other than to continue to offer my strongest possible personal support for his candidacy," Geffen said in a written statement. "My comments, which were quoted accurately by Maureen Dowd, reflect solely my personal beliefs regarding the Clintons," he said referring to New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd’s Wednesday piece in which the entertainment executive admonished the former president and questioned whether Sen. Clinton will be able to win the presidency, prompting a war of words between the Clinton and Obama camps. -- CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney
