Franken seeks Minnesota Senate seat
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Former Saturday Night Live star and current progressive radio talk show host Al Franken said Wednesday he will challenge Republican Sen. Norm Coleman for his Minnesota Senate seat.

Franken posted the announcement on his new website -- www.alfranken.com.

"Minnesotans have a right to be skeptical about whether I'm ready for this challenge, and to wonder how seriously I would take the responsibility that I'm asking you to give me," Franken said in a video posted on his website. "I want you to know: Nothing means more to me than making government work better for the working families of this state, and over the next 20 months, I look forward to proving to you that I take these issues seriously." Franken said

Shortly after the web video was posted, Franken made the announcement on his last "Air America" radio show.

Franken referenced his past efforts on behalf of Democratic candidates said, "I think I can do more, and so I'm going to run for United States senate."
