Feingold calls Levin/Warner resolution 'weak'
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. Russ Feingold, the Democrat of Wisconsin who has proposed Congress cut off funding for the Iraq War to force the president to begin a withdrawal, said Thursday the non-binding resolution that condemns President Bush's call to increase troops is "weak" and indicated he would not support it.
"The resolution rejects redeploying U.S. troops and supports moving a misguided military strategy from one part of Iraq to another," Feingold said in a statement. The American people have rejected the president's Iraq strategy and it's time for Congress to end our military involvement in this war." This comes after Sens. Carl Levin, D-Michigan, and John Warner, R-Virginia -- who had been supporting competing measures that opposed the president's build up -- decided to join forces on one bipartisan measure Wednesday night. -- CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney
