Senate committee approves Petraeus as Iraq military chief
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Senate Armed Services Committee voted Wednesday to approve Lt. Gen. David Petraeus as coalition commander in Iraq, according to Sen. John McCain, who said the vote was unanimous.
The nomination now goes to the full Senate for approval. The committee is scheduled to hold a confirmation hearing Tuesday for Adm. William Fallon to be the commander of the U.S. Central Command and a confirmation hearing Feb. 1 for Gen. George Casey to become the Army chief of staff. -- CNN Congressional Producer Ted Barrett
