Reid vows Senate overview of Bush's Iraq plan
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, indicated his opposition to President Bush's new Iraq policy Thursday but vowed the Senate would give his proposal "a thorough review."
"We will have hearings on the president's plan," Ried said in a speech on the Senate floor. "We will ask experts about his proposal, and when the process is complete, we will have a vote in the Senate. The least we can do for the American peopleis give their elected officials the opportunity to voice their views on the most important issue of our time." While Reid said he would not "prejudge the outcome of the vote," he added "putting more U.S. combat forces in the middle of an Iraqi civil war is a serious mistake." -- CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney
