McCain: 'American people want success'
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, reiterated his support Thursday of President Bush's call for an increase in troop levels in Iraq while brushing aside suggestions such a policy is not supported by the vast majority of Americans.
"It's a vast over-simplification to think that the American people just want us out of Iraq," McCain said standing outside the White House. "The American people want success. They're understandably frustrated. They're understandably saddened." "If you can show the American people that there's a way forward to success and also describe to them the consequences of failure, I believe that this policy can be supported and I believe it can succeed," McCain added.
