Justice Breyer gets an 'A' for State of the Union attendance record
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- With his attendance at the State of the Union Tuesday night, Supreme Court Associate Justice Stephen Breyer continues to hold the record of having attended more of the annual addresses than any of his colleagues on the bench. Breyer has attended 12 of the last 13 State of the Union addresses, more than any other sitting Justice, missing only one since joining the bench in 1994. He is also the only member of the high court to have attended every State of the Union or annual message that President Bush has delivered. The Court has had a poor attendance record for most of Bush's annual speeches, with Breyer the sole representative in 2001, 2003, and 2004. This year, a total of four Justices are in attendance: Chief Justice John Roberts and Associate Justices Anthony Kennedy, Breyer, and the newest member, Samuel Alito. -- CNN Director of Political Research Robert Yoon |
