Dems' Webb: Bush must take 'right kind of action'
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Democratic Sen. James Webb of Virginia urged President Bush to take "the right kind of action" for the American people Tuesday and promised the Democratic-led Congress would "join him" if he does.
"If he does not," Webb said in the Democrats' response to the president's State of the Union address, "we will be showing him the way." Webb took on two key areas of Bush's presidency and his speech -- foreign policy and the economy. He cited the actions of Presidents Theodore Roosevelt, who took on economic imbalances he compared to today's, and Dwight Eisenhower, who brought an end to the Korean War. "Those presidents took the right kind of action," he said, "for the benefit of the American people and for the health of our relations around the world." Webb is scheduled to deliver his response following Bush's speech. Webb's full remarks |
