Clinton: Bush needs 'suit of armor' for healthcare debate
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-New York, criticized President Bush's healthcare proposal Thursday, and said he will need a "suit of armor" as he tries to build support for it.
"I am going to send him a suit of armor, because I know that anybody who puts a foot in the healthcare debate is going to need that," said Clinton, referring to her failed effort to overhaul the nation's healthcare system during her husband's -- President Bill Clinton --first term in office. "I have the scars and experience to show for it." "The problem is his proposal would be funded by taking money away from public hospitals and the healthcare safety net," Clinton added in a speech delivered before the U.S. Conference of Mayors. -- CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney
