Brownback to seek GOP presidential nomination
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback will officially declare his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination on Jan. 20 in Topeka, Kansas, a top aide tells CNN. "The senator will be announcing his candidacy to be president of the United States on January 20, and then will be traveling to Washington to participate in the annual "March for Life," Glen Chambers, Brownback's chief of staff, said in an interview. Brownback opposes abortion rights and he is expected to heavily court social conservatives, who will play an influential role in choosing the next Republican presidential nominee. The Kansas senator had opened a presidential exploratory committee last month. -- CNN Political Editor Mark Preston |
