Boehner sets timeline on surge
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- House Minority Leader John Boehner put the White House on notice Tuesday that the U.S. should know if the increase in U.S. troops in Iraq is working "in the next 60-90 days" in an interview with CNN.
The Ohio Republican also said that the increase in troops "is the last best good chance to win in Iraq." Boehner's comments come just one day after he and other House Republicans said they wanted the president to report every 30 days in writing -- on the progress the U.S. and Iraq were making on specific benchmarks. Boehner also said Republicans were "skeptical" the surge plan would work because of the track record of the Iraqi government. The minority leader's comments to CNN go beyond that and lay down a marker – a date by which the House Republican leadership believes the US should know if the surge plan will work. -- CNN Congressional Correspondent Andrea Koppel
