Who padlocked Kean's headquarters?
MOUNTAINSIDE, New Jersey -- Police in this city say they responded to a complaint of a padlocked door at Tom Kean Jr.'s campaign headquarters after 7 a.m. this morning and had a public works employee cut the chain.
When asked about the Kean camp's claim that the padlocking was a "dirty trick" by supporters of his opponent for the U.S. Senate, Democrat Bob Menendez, Mountainside Police Captain Richard Osieja said, "It's still under active investigation." He concedes it could have been a high school prank. Whether a prank or something else, the padlocking was not so funny for Terry Gittlin, who works in the same building that houses the Kean campaign. Gittlin found the side doors of the building jammed with broken keys in the locks when she arrived at 7 a.m. this morning. "I thought I was going off my mind," Gittlin said. "I thought I had Alzheimer's and I didn't know how to use my key." -- CNN Correspondent Allan Chernoff |
