White House says it's in Dem's DNA to spend money
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- With four days until the midterm elections, the White House hopes to hammer home their contention that a Democratic Congress would raise taxes on middle-class Americans.
White House Communications Director Dan Bartlett said in an interview on CNN Friday that Democrats have a "huge appetite," and it's "fundamentally within their DNA to spend money." Bartlett also claimed that Democrats will raise taxes on all income levels, not just the rich as they have maintained. "The only way they can pay for it, is what they will call is so- called just taxing the rich, Bartlett said. “The problem is they have a long record of taxing everybody when they do that." President Bush echoed similar themes while stumping for embattled Missouri GOP Sen. Jim Talent today.
