St. Louis Election Board chairman issues guidance
JEFFERSON CITY, Missouri (CNN) -- St. Louis County Election Board Chairman John Diehl has called judges at two precincts to remind them of rules regarding acceptable forms of voter identification.
Diehl said he received reports from a monitoring group that poll workers at Christ the King Church and Nathaniel Hawthorne Elementary in St. Louis County were asking voters specifically for photo identification. The Missouri Supreme Court declared state photo ID laws "unconstitutional" in a ruling on October 16th. "We have 3500 poll workers and I can' confirm everything that an individual poll worker says to an individual voter, but we did call those precincts to counsel them on the rules," Diehl told CNN. "I am not aware of any voter being denied the right to vote over a photo ID issue." Denise Lieberman, spokeswoman for the monitoring group Election Protection Coalition, informed Diehl of the reports. St. Louis County is the largest jurisdiction in Missouri with 440 poll locations. -- CNN Producer Alex Walker
