Pelosi to hit campaign trail in Pennsylvania and Connecticut
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Republican candidates love to trumpet the prospect of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi becoming speaker as a way to motivate the GOP base. But that has not deterred the California Democrat from hitting the campaign trail this weekend leading up to the midterm elections.
Pelosi plans to barnstorm across Connecticut and Pennsylvania this weekend, hitting six rallies on behalf of Democratic candidates. On Saturday, the minority leader -- and potential first woman speaker -- will head to Pennsylvania to campaign for Democratic House candidates Joe Sestak and Patrick Murphy as well as senate candidate Bob Casey, Jr. Former Vice President Al Gore will join Pelosi at the Sestak event and Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, is slated to attend the Murphy and Casey events. On Sunday, Pelosi will campaign on behalf of candidates Chris Murphy, Joe Courtney, and Diane Farrell in Connecticut. All three candidates are locked in close races with GOP incumbents. For CNN's coverage of the midterm elections, check out America Votes 2006 -- CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney |
