Justice to push for surveillance legislation
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Justice Department officials said Thursday they are gearing up for a push to win passage of the Terrorist Surveillance Act during the coming "lame duck" session of Congress under Republican control.

President Bush earlier in the day listed passage of the program as one of several priorities for the session. The legislation -- which would authorize the administration's warrantless
surveillance program, including wiretapping phone calls between people in the United States and suspected terrorists overseas -- has drawn objections from Democrats and Republicans.

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales was not available to comment, but his aides indicated he is likely to be making public appearances to push for passage in coming days.
