House Majority Whip: Clyburn v. 'whiz kid'?
Washington (CNN) -- South Carolina Democrat Jim Clyburn, the chairman of the Democratic Caucus, solicited support from colleagues Wednesday in his bid for the majority whip post in the next Congress.
"I ask for your support of my candidacy for Majority Whip and pledge to you my commitment to work tirelessly, intelligently and openly on behalf of our Caucus and on behalf of the people who have given us this opportunity," Clyburn wrote in a letter to his colleagues. Clyburn is the first House Democrat to make a run for Majority Whip. But Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Illinois, the chief architect of the Democrat's successful congressional campaign, told CNN earlier today he is also considering making a run for the third-ranking House leadership position. --CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney |
