GOP split on Allen concession
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Republicans are split on whether Sen. George Allen, R-Virginia, should concede to his Democratic challenger Jim Webb or fight on and see if there are enough votes to win re-election.
A Senate source close to Allen said the senator "has heard from Republican leaders in the Senate and the party who are encouraging him to concede." But Sen. John Sununu, R-New Hampshire, said he would encourage Allen to seek a recount to ensure there are no irregularities. A senior aide to Senate Majority Whip Mitch McConnell, the likely GOP leader in the new Congress, said the Kentucky Republican would not try to persuade Allen on this matter. -- CNN Congressional Correspondent Ted Barrett
