Election board: canvassing to be completed Tuesday
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Virginia State Board of Elections said Thursday they expect to finish their canvassing effort of Virginia localities by next Tuesday, according to a statement.
The board has already canvassed 57 localities in their effort to certify the election result in the Virginia Senate race. Republican Sen. George Allen currently trails his Democratic challenger James Webb by approximately 7,000 votes. The Associated Press and other news outlets declared Webb the winner of the race Wednesday night. CNN has yet to make that call. Allen has called a press conference for 3 p.m. ET today to discuss his future plans. |
