Dean: 'Pelosi's a lot more of a straight shooter than the vice president is'
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean brushed aside Vice President Dick Cheney's repeated charges Friday that a Democratically-controlled Congress would raise taxes on middle-class Americans.

"Well, if you'll pardon my expression, Nancy Pelosi's a lot more of a straight shooter than the vice president is," Dean told CNN's Wolf Blitzer when asked if Cheney's recent allegations that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi favored tax increases.

Deans said a Democratically-controlled Congress would lower middle-class taxes, while raising those on oil companies.

"The fact of the matter is, we're not going to -- not only are we not going to raise taxes on middle class Americans; we're going to try to find a way to cut them," the DNC head said. "We are, however, going to rescind all those huge tax breaks that the president and the vice president, the Republicans gave to the oil companies when they were charging us $3 a gallon."
