Clinton gives Whitehouse an election eve boost
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- About a thousand people turned out Monday night for a Rhode Island Democratic rally headlined by former President Clinton.

Clinton was in Warwick on behalf of Senate hopeful Sheldon Whitehouse, who is in a tight race against Republican incumbent Lincoln Chafee. Clinton told the gathering that "the eyes of the country are now on Rhode Island."

Earlier, he was in suburban Washington to campaign with another Senate hopeful, Jim Webb. He's locked in a close contest with Virginia Republican incumbent George Allen. The former president's last-day campaign sweep got started in New York. He told potential voters that Republicans "can't run anything right."
