Bush stresses GOP themes in Missouri
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush echoed stalwart GOP themes of taxes and national security Friday, hoping they will make the difference in Missouri's closely fought senate race between GOP incumbent Jim Talent and State Auditor Claire McCaskill.
Bush stressed the familiar Republican mantra, while stumping for Talent in Springfield, Missouri. "If you want low taxes and a correspondingly strong economy, vote Republican and send Jim Talent back to the United States Senate," Bush said to the politically friendly audience. "If you want this country of ours to give the professionals they need -- the tools they need to protect you, and if you want the United States of America doing everything we can to defeat an enemy and lay the foundation for peace, vote Republican, and send Jim Talent back to the United States Senate." Bush is making two campaign stops in Missouri before traveling to Iowa and Colorado -- part of a multi-day campaign swing ahead of Tuesday's midterm elections. McCaskill's campaign hopes Bush's presence in this battleground state will draw crucial swing-voters to the Democratic State Auditor's camp.
