Bush: No decision on Iraq troop levels
BOGOR, Indonesia (CNN) -- Speaking at a joint news conference with his Indonesian counterpart, President Bush said Monday he is waiting for advice from his top military commanders before considering any changes to U.S. military strength in Iraq.
"I haven't made any decisions about troop increases or troop decreases, and won't until I hear from a variety of sources, including our own United States military," Bush said. The U.S. leader noted that the country's top uniformed military commander, Gen. Peter Pace, "is in the process of evaluating a lot of suggestions" from military commanders on the ground in Iraq and in Washington. "They will be bringing forth the suggestions and recommendations to me here as quickly as possible," Bush said. Earlier in the day, Bush huddled with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the presidential palace outside of Jakarta after arriving from Vietnam where he attended the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. Bush said the two leaders discussed North Korea and Iran, and the "nuclear ambitions" of both regimes. |
