Bush concedes GOP defeat in House
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Senior White House adviser Karl Rove -- the architect of the last two winning presidential campaigns -- notified President Bush shortly after 11 p.m. ET Tuesday about the GOP losing control of the House, according to White House Deputy Press Secretary Tony Fratto.
While disappointed in the initial results, the president remains optimistic that Republicans will retain control of the Senate, Fratto said. He added that Bush is "eager to work with both parties on his priorities." The president will hold a news conference Wednesday at 1 p.m. ET in the East Room of the White House, after making morning calls to the Republican leadership. Fratto said Bush would not be make any calls Tuesday night, because there were still outstanding contested races. - CNN White House Correspondent Suzanne Malveaux
