Burns concedes in Senate race
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. Conrad Burns, R-Montana, conceded in the Montana Senate race Thursday leaving Virginia as the only outstanding Senate contest from the midterm elections. "We finally felt that the numbers were stable enough," Jason Klindt, a Burns spokesman told CNN. "Yesterday there was just too much movement going on with a close election." Burns called his Democratic challenger Jon Tester to inform him of his decision. CNN projected on Wednesday that Tester had defeated Burns. This afternoon, Sen. George Allen, R-Virginia, trailing Democratic challenger Jim Webb, will hold a news conference. -- CNN Political Editor Mark Preston |
