Bayh touts efforts in 2006 elections
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Indiana, touted his efforts in the 2006 elections in a memo Friday and emphasized his ability to win in traditionally Republican-friendly states.
Bayh contributed more than $270,000 to Democratic candidates in the past election cycle and dispatched 50 staffers to battleground districts across the country, according to the senator's All America political action committee. Bayh's PAC highlighted victories in districts the senator focused on -- especially in the Midwest -- as examples of how he knows how to win in regions usually less receptive to Democratic candidates. "The lesson of this election is clear-- we won by turning the Red states of the Heartland Blue," Bayh said on Election Night. "Indiana, which has voted for the Republicans in 16 of the last 17 presidential elections, sent three new Democrats to Congress. This is not an accident. Out here in Indiana, we have developed a formula for winning under the most difficult of circumstances. We are fiscally responsible, tough on national security, share the values of middle class families, and value progress over partisanship." Bayh, a two term senator and former governor, has acknowledged his interest in running for the White House in 2008. -- CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney
