Allen to deliver statewide address tonight
From CNN Ticker Producer Alex Mooney
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Senator George Allen will deliver a two minute statewide address Monday night on issues he says are important to Virginians. The Virginia Republican is hoping to re-focus his contentious Senate campaign after racial insensitivity allegations have dogged his campaign for several weeks. "Democrats know when this race is about his record, issues, and ideas, George Allen wins," Mike Thomas, Allen's deputy campaign manager, wrote in an email to supporters. "That's why they are attacking him and attacking him fiercely." The address, airing on four Virginia affiliate stations at 7:58pm, comes as a Mason-Dixon Poll done for MSNBC and McClatchy Newspapers show Democratic challenger Jim Webb and Allen tied 43 percent to 43 percent. The poll was conducted September 23 to 27. For more of CNN's coverage of key races, check out America Votes 2006 |
