Allen campaign ties Webb to 'Clinton political machine'
From CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- In an apparent effort to rally his Republican base, the campaign of embattled Virginia Sen. George Allen is portraying Democratic challenger Jim Webb as the latest benefactor of the "Clinton political machine." With less than three weeks until Election Day, Dick Wadhams, Allen's campaign manager, says in an e-mail to potential donors that the Clintons' recent involvement in the Webb Campaign is an indication that the former Navy Secretary is closely tied to the former first family. "Just last week, New York Senator Hillary Clinton came to Virginia to endorse and raise money for Webb at an upscale French restaurant," Wadhams wrote. "The Clinton political machine is in full gear for Webb." In a Wednesday press release, Wadhams also highlighted Webb's earlier charge as Navy Secretary that Clinton's administration was "corrupt." "Now he has gone from publicly charging Bill Clinton with corruption to inviting him to Virginia to raise money," Wadhams said. For more of CNN's coverage of key races, check out America Votes 2006 |
