Farmers, scientists rally behind endangered turtle

(CNN) -- One of the world's rarest turtles has been thrown a lifeline.

With only eight recorded sightings, the future of the Bellinger River short-necked turtle was looking bleak. But an alliance of community groups, farmers and scientists has been formed to try to protect its last known habitat in northern New South Wales.
