China protects ancient trees from people who love them too much

BEIJING (CNN) -- Rubbing up against tree trunks has long been a popular early-morning exercise in the Chinese capital -- but no more.

China has enacted new laws to protect Beijing's 40,000 rare and ancient trees, which many people use to do their exercises. Some enthusiasts even claim it helps treat rheumatism and other ailments.
