How To: Step 3 - Add Malt Extract
Once the mixture comes to a full boil add malt extract, which is an essential ingredient in all homebrewed beers. Extracts come in a few different varieties ranging from extra light to dark and comes in liquid or dry forms. . The type extract will largely determine the color of the beer once it is finished.
If using canned liquid malt extract the container should be soaked in warm water for a few minutes. The warmth will make the extract less sticky and easier to add to the boil.
To loosen malt extract that sticks to the side of the can, use a spoon to skim some of the boil back into the can and pour back into the wort.
Make sure to stir throughly and often with a large spoon from the bottom of the wort to the top.
