WASHINGTON (CNN) -- It's not just skill that is propelling the U.S. women's soccer team through their World Cup games. After a stunning loss in soccer's 1995 top tournament, the team sought a mental edge -- and hired psychologist Colleen Hacker.

CNN Medical Correspondent Dr. Steve Salvatore reports that the move appears to be working for Team USA -- and has become an increasingly popular method for athletes hoping to get a leg up on the competition.
