(CNN) -- A small but growing number of people are opting to give up their contacts or eyeglasses in favor of laser surgery. About 300,000 people are expected to undergo the two main types of laser eye surgery this year. However, at $2,100 to $2,500 an eye, most insurance companies won't pay. And although the surgery means dramatic improvement for many, there is no guarantee they won't need glasses again.
