(CNN) -- Fighting the stigma of mental illness has been a passion of former first lady Rosalynn Carter since her husband first ran for political office. Now she has written a book on the subject, "Helping Someone with Mental Illness." She says it's important for people to recognize mental illness and realize help is available. "We don't want to face that," she says. "We don't want to think we have something wrong with our brain."

Parenting Correspondent Pat Etheridge talks with Mrs. Carter about the warning signs of mental illness in children and treatment options.
