Independence Day is the third most traveled holiday of the year
July 3, 1998
Web posted at: 2:26 p.m. EDT (1826 GMT)

(CNN) -- If you're one of the millions of people who plan to enjoy Fourth of July celebrations throughout the United States this weekend, you might want to start thinking about who'll be drinking and who'll be driving.

U.S. officials say this is the third most traveled holiday of the year. With more people on the roads, and more parties packed into a weekend than normal, officials warn you to beware of drunken drivers.

Officials say even one drink can make a difference in your ability to react quickly behind the wheel. If you plan to party with a friend, officials say you should choose a designated driver before either of you take a drink.

For more, listen to Dr. Steve Salvatore's report.
