Burritos recalled after school children sickened

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- A Colorado food company is recalling thousands of burritos after other burritos made by the company were suspected of causing illnesses, the U.S. Agriculture Department said Monday.

Estrada Foods Inc., of Pueblo, is voluntarily recalling 9,220 packages of "Green Chile Burritos" distributed by World SHARE, a non-profit group that sells food to the poor at reduced cost, officials said.

The recall was announced after 155 school children in Georgia became sick in March after eating Estrada burritos. Another 226 students got sick in November in Georgia after eating the same product.

Like products being recalled, the burritos in both school cases were made in October.

Regulators said there was no scientific proof the Estrada products caused any illnesses, but that the company was taking precautionary action.

The recall involves packages containing four burritos. "Est. 19273" appears inside the USDA inspection seal on the product label and product code "029901" appears above the brand name.
