DENVER
Granted, it's easier to get a good steak in Denver than great seafood. But cuisines throughout the city run the gamut from delis and food carts downtown to the Vietnamese strip on South Federal. Mexican restaurants can be found in just about every neighborhood. Most establishments don't enforce a dress code or require reservations.
Particularly notable is the champagne brunch at the Brown Palace Hotel. For a bit more of an Old West feeling, try the Buckhorn Exchange, Buffalo Bill's favorite and now the oldest restaurant in town. Or dine at the Fort, which has a panoramic view of the city and claims to serve more buffalo than any other restaurant on Earth. (If buffalo isn't wild enough for you, try their rattlesnake.) Also exotic is the 1800s-style Japanese cuisine at Domo on Osage.
As an alternative to the ubiquitous Coors, you might sample the wares at one of the many brewpubs in LoDo. Wynkoop Brewing Co. is one of our favorites, and it serves food, too—everything from buffalo burgers to charbroiled elk.
Below is a sampling of restaurants in town. Expect to pay within these general guidelines, based on the cost of a dinner for one (excluding drinks, tax and tip): $ = less than US$10; $$ = US$10-$20; $$$ = US$21-$50; $$$$ = more than US$50.
