How To: Step 3 - Add Malt Extract

3 - ExtractOnce the mixture comes to a full boil add malt extract, which is an essential ingredient in all homebrewed beers. Extracts come in a few different varieties ranging from extra light to dark and comes in liquid or dry forms. . The type extract will largely determine the color of the beer once it is finished.

Liquid Extract If using canned liquid malt extract the container should be soaked in warm water for a few minutes. The warmth will make the extract less sticky and easier to add to the boil.

To loosen malt extract that sticks to the side of the can, use a spoon to skim some of the boil back into the can and pour back into the wort.

Make sure to stir throughly and often with a large spoon from the bottom of the wort to the top.
