Advice for the lovelorn
The CNN Sing-a-long
CNN's love poetry slam
(S)he calls you what?
I think the best place to meet a date or a potential future mate is at church.
If you both have Christ in common, you're not only starting as friends, but starting with the BEST of friends. ... Thanks for looking this over. Romans 10:9-11
Romance in the 90s? In this fast-paced world in which we live and sometime work 12 hour days with no weekends off we sometimes find love in the oddest of places. There really is no bad place in which to meet that special someone now since there is modern technology; we can background check anyone and everyone. This gives us more flexibility of being open and friendly to anyone who attracts our attention. Or with the added factor of e-mail we can go domestic as well as abroad. There's also the possibility of being someone's secret admirer via e-mail. Send a seductive voice e-mail message.
I am a 29-year-old former journalist and editor, now full-time Mom of two, and married to the most wonderful man in the world. So many of my friends wonder how I've found such happiness. They continually try to find love among the good-looking, whereas I found a man who shared my interests and values. If you're looking for love, look in among people who enjoy what you enjoy! There you'll find a friend, and only in a friend, you'll find true love. After that, it takes constant, open, honest expression of feelings in a calm, non-accusing way, followed by diligent effort to respond to the other's needs. Also -- assume permanence: Don't even think about divorce (unless someone's safety is at risk).
We have to get back to the basics - friendship, mutual respect, and the ability to give to someone other than ourselves -- instead of sex first, then "what have you done for me lately?"
I am thinking of you
I have no definite purpose
for writing to you
other than to say that
I am happily thinking
about you right now
and when you read this
I know that
I will have captured
a small part of your day
causing you to
think about me
Danny's Song
Even though we ain't got money
I'm so in love with you honey
Every day will bring a chain of love
And in the mornin' when I rise
Bring a tear of joy to my eyes
And tell me ...
Everything ... is gonna be all right.

Your hair is as soft
As soft as can be,
Your eyes are as blue
As blue as the sea,
Now we are together
Well be going out forever,
This is going out to a girl called heather.

The day we met reminds me,
of the flowers in the spring,
The love my heart has for you,
can only mean one thing.
To be together forever,
that's how I want it to be,
There's just one final question ...
Will you marry me?

To me you are perfection
The day's first ray of sun
Warmth, youth and beauty
All rolled into one
To me you are enchantment
A rare and precious stone
Delicate and magical
Yet powerful and strong
But most of all you're a friend
A gift to any man
Who's lucky enough to have you
As I can say I am
For that I offer you my shoulder
To lean on when you're weak
I offer you my shelter
When the weather's a bit tweaked
And Sarah when you're lonely
When the pain just seems too large
I offer you my heart

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
All of my friends are going steady,
Thus they ask me,
Why aren't you?
I tell them,
"My heart I own is lonely,"
Though I wish for a change in fortune there,
Sometime I'll meet that special person,
My questions are only
When? and where?

I remember it well,
The old tree where we met,
The tree where for hours we sat.
I remember it well.
I remember it well,
The moments we shared together,
The times which lasted forever.
I remember it well.
I remember it well.
Your everlasting kiss,
Which now I dearly miss.
I remember it well.
I remember it well.
The day I thought I'd die,
The day you said goodbye.
Yes, I remember it well.
Now here I sit remembering,
The nights I shed my tears.
My heart fills with grief,
As I sit and watch our tree,
The falling of its leaves.
Roses are Red,
Violets are Blue,
Sugar is Sweet,
And So are You.
But the Roses are Linted,
The Violets are Dead,
The Sugar is Lumpy,
And so is your Head.
I met a little birdie
Who said your love was true
I thought then, "Wow, you love me!"
Here's what I should do.
Wrestle with you plenty,
Kiss you black and blue,
Wrap a bear-hug 'round you
'til you said, "I love you."
I dreamed long of this moment,
and still it seems a fable.
You never let on, not one hint!
That's romantic!, like Clark Gable.
So, this, I said, to birdie,
Tell Buddy, Cher is true.
And birdie said back to me
Oops, you're not Peggy Sue.
Your hair is as soft
As soft as can be,
Your eyes are as blue
As blue as the sea,
Now we are together
We'll be going out forever,
This is going out to a girl called Heather.
Good morning, my sweet
It's so lovely to meet
This new day with you
You are the one true
To my heart
To which I am grateful you are a part.
Roses are Red,
Violets are Blue,
Sugar is Sweet,
And So are You.
But the Roses are Linted,
The Violets are Dead,
The Sugar is Lumpy,
And so is your Head.

This is a poem I wrote for my wife last Valentine's Day, when she was pregnant and quite anxious ...
O The MOTHER in YOU!
Twenty-five golden years ago, you my dear
Proudly sounded your bugle, loud and clear
Held in their arms with joy, shred a tear
This was you, O the BABY in YOU, you my dear!
All watched in awe, as you ambled, tiny feet
They smiled as you teased with a naughty cheat
And then you smiled back, with a glow so sweet
This was you, O the CHILD in YOU, you my chweet!
They noticed you, as you walked down the corridor
Befriending, you smiled back, sweet as before
Moment I saw you, knew I had a friend for ever
This was you, O the TEENAGER in YOU, you for sure!
Days of sunshine, as we as friends blossomed
Held my hand, with tender love, you cared
Our hearts leaped as around the pyre we walked
This was you, O the WOMAN in you, you I loved!
Succeed you shall, as you have, so far without fear
As GOD gifts, molded in your womb, a life tender
When you hear a new bugle, you too will shed a tear
This is you, O the MOTHER in YOU, you my dear!
A Valentine's greeting to the women of CNN:
You are the goddess
who walks with the wind
through the spring gardens of Paris
by the light of the midnight moon.
Under a sky of a thousand stars
your eyes glisten like a million diamonds,
your hair dances with the sweet breeze
that carries the fragrance of fresh flowers.
across the courtyard
and into the dark avenues.
Dark avenues haunted
by poets who spent their entire lives
trying to capture the beauty enshrined in your eyes,
by artists who never painted
the warmth of your skin or the passion of your lips
and by musicians who never wrote
the melody of your effect
or the rhythm of my heart.
