WASHINGTON (CNN) -- With the flick of a finger, bickering and hostilities temporarily abated on Capitol Hill Wednesday.
House Speaker Newt Gingrich turned on the lights of the brightly decorated "Capitol holiday tree," officially ushering in the season of good cheer and spirits.
The 40-year-old Douglas fir is from a national forest in Northern California. The tree is 75 feet tall, but is still overshadowed by the 135-foot Capitol dome.
