President Bush is one of the most talented dividers in American political history. He skillfully used anti-gay bigotry, the Bible, even war to divide Americans so as to conquer Kerry. He should be congratulated on his triumph, but I have no faith in his ability to unite us after this bitter season of division.

1. Iraq War: It's going to be hard to convince people who are against it it's a good thing
2. Party division: Winning the majority of the popular vote is a mandate and nothing cools tempers more than a mandate
3. Economic goals: I don't think the Dems gave a counter vision that even competes with Bush's
4. Cultural values: Those rifts are unmendable -- Americans are divided. It's the secular coasts versus the religious heartland.
