CNN's 'Earth Matters' wins award
LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- The Environmental Media Awards were held
in Los Angeles last Monday, attended by several media
organizations, including CNN.
The CNN show "Earth Matters" was honored for a report about
the Endangered Species Act. The competition included "60
Minutes" and Michael Moore's "TV Nation."

KODIAK ISLAND, Alaska (CNN) -- An update on the proposed
Alaska rocket launching site we told you about last week:
Fish and Wildlife Service officials have approved the
project.
They had been worried about the effects of rocket launches on
wildlife. Opponents say they may file a lawsuit to stop it.
(CNN) -- The first wildlife biologist to head the National
Forest Service is stepping down.
After three tumultuous years, Jack Ward Thomas is calling it
quits. It's been a time of intense battles over public land.
And Thomas often found himself caught in the crossfire
between timber companies and environmentalists.
Thomas says Americans need to decide on a clear mandate for
the Forest Service, which manages almost 200 million acres.
