Bangladesh: The forgotten people
Watch the program: Part 1 | Part 2
Decades after Myanmar’s (formerly Burma) military junta forced the Rohingyas into exile, their suffering still continues. Trapped in displacement camps, they survive on starvation rations in constant fear of abuse. "My people are rotting," despairs one refugee. The Bangladesh government classes the Rohingyas as illegal immigrants. According to the UNHCR, guards at the displacement camp are accused of forcing refugees into prostitution, extortion and stealing food. Thousands more live in slums along the Naj river without the basic protection of the U.N. "We survive by collecting leaves and boiling them," says one woman. "No-one cares about us."
When will people and humanity start to matter to humankind and governments. It is absolutely unacceptable for people to be forgotten and left to starve. Could you please provide me with contact info so that I can try and help. Thanks
we are not told about this so we are hidden from the truth every one would want to help if they knew
I am a Bangladeshi citizen, living in UK. It was very painful to see the program on CNN. Bangladesh is a moderate peaceful Islamic country and such ignorance toward these peoples by the Bangladeshi Government is unacceptable. They might be classified as Illegal Immigrants by the Bangladeshi Government, but they are humans just like me, a Bangladeshi citizen. On top of that these peoples are Muslims (which is the official religion of Bangladesh) and speak Bengali, so they belong in Bangladesh.
I am sure that the peoples of Bangladesh don’t know anything this about these forgotten peoples. International Medias like CNN, should broadcast more of these programs internationally, so UN and human rights organization can pressure the Government of Bangladesh to accept these peoples as its own citizens. However, I hope Bangladesh Government opens Bangladesh’s door to these peoples and accepts them as Bangladeshi citizens. RAJON – From UK
It is a tragedy and embarassment for international governments who boast and advertise how much they promote democracy and human rights. Rohingyas are also humans, or are they not? I wonder if the Rohingyas had something of value to offer, would we still treat them in this manner? Or would we offer them comfort and accommodate them so that we can utilize their valued offers to make more money for ourselves in this materialistic world?
It is a human's right to have shelter, food, etc. These poor people have nothing. For them living and breathing on the face of this World is Hell. Though I do sound very harsh, it is because on a macroscopic arena, it's haunting to the human race, how much we have wealth and food, and how much we waste the latter. If we could contribute from our wastes I am sure, these devastated human race would be in the brink of survival rather then lead in prostitution and starvation.
Something must be done about these people. UNHCR , ABC and all others including Medecin sans Frontieres bcannot hide behind neutral intervention. Because their numbers are relatively small the danger of genocide through disease, or other disasters is proportionately greater. If you know of agencies I can write to please send their addresses.Duncan McGibbon (Bl0ndel@bluewin,

In the world, there are still lots of people who are forgotten. While those people are fighting against starvation, lots of Americans are fighting against obesity because of overeat. As human being living in the same planet, we should do someting to help those people.
When will these people see the value in human life? And we claim to be humans and in the 21st Century?
So how can I help without some group faking to be a humanitarian agancy and end up throwing my money to dogs?
awe all reap of what we have sown.
