Mideast Snapshot - The Iranian Leader In Iraq
Pre-news conference meeting with Abdel Aziz Al-Hakim, leader of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq. Baghdad, March 2nd, 2008. (Photo CNN's Mohammed Tawfeeq) On day two of his historic visit to Iraq, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad meets influential Shiite leader Abdel Aziz Al-Hakim in Baghdad today. The Iranian president received a red carpet welcome in Baghdad, nearly five years after the start of the U.S.-led Iraq war. America's regional nemesis has had meetings with Iraqi president Jalal Talabani and traveled to the heart of U.S. presence in Baghdad - the fortified green zone - for talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Al-Maliki. What do you think of Ahmadinejad's visit to Baghdad? Send us an email at mideast@cnn.com or add a comment below.
Bad news for the U. S. ! What it is fearing the most is playing out on our TV screens right now: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is visiting Iraq, and I bet America will soon do eyerything it can to getting back to its claims that Iran is still interfering in Iraq´s affairs and the country´s failure to comply when it comes to the Islamic Republic´s nuclear program.
Why? Well, it is in the strategic interests of the United States that Iran and Iraq remain enemies because if these two countries start "embracing" one another and become friends they in fact would have control over the world´s largest oil reserves! Reason enough for the U. S. to not let that happen!!! Daniela, GERMANY
Where is the outcry about Ahmadinejad's visit to Iraq? The same person and country (Iran) we are fighting to keep out of Iraq. There is hardly a mention of it in the news or television. Our generals "on the ground" are reporting that the weapons, IEDs, etc, killing our soldiers in Iraq are made in Iran. yet the Iraq leaders who we are supporting (money and blood) roll out the red carpet (I wonder who paid for that) and have a marching band play for this despicable character. Wining and dining him in the U.S. built "green zone" while our soldiers are getting shot at. And this is the country Republicans want to continue to support for the next 100 years. Go figure.
most americans are as tired of this war as ahminedajad is. as barack obama said, as queda was not blowing people up in iraq before daddy and son bush invaded. let iran and iraq work it out. to say that if they join forces they would have control over the world's largest oil reserves only confirms this bush war has been about oil this whole time.
Amidst all of his talk of the U.S. "bringing terrorism to Iraq" and saying we should leave, don't you find it ironic that if it wasn't for the U.S. military taking Saddam out of the picture, that clown would have never been able to set foot in Iraq??
to 5.24.well said.this is the democracy that bush promised the Iraqi people.democracy that took the life of two million humans in Iraq.
Why is the Media not making an issue about the better welcome of the Iran Leader to Iraq than US Leaders? Our Leaders go to Iraq unannounced and treated worse while we spend Life & Money.
The United States has no clue to the relationship between the two countries. Why the U.S persists in the occupation is beyond me. If it was for the oil, that didn't happen. Let the boys come home, before any more ar injured or killed.
