Can't Buy Me Love?
Turkey is planning on spending some $12 billion in mainly Kurdish areas of Turkey, in the hope of draining support for Kurdish rebel groups and luring young men away from armed militancy.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara, Turkey, Tuesday, March 11, 2008. Erdogan is expected to travel Saturday, March 15, 2008, to the country's poor southeast, in an apparent effort to address the concerns of the Kurds, two weeks after the Turkish military ended a ground operation against Kurdish rebels based in Iraq. "As part of the push, the government will dedicate a state television channel to Kurdish language broadcasting, a measure that Kurds in Turkey have sought for years," according to a report in today's New York Times.

Speaking of which, we will be traveling to Istanbul next week to film the April edition of Inside The Middle East.

Watch this space for regular updates on our reports and interviews from Turkey.

Istanbul sounds like an interesting location for the next IME - I'm looking forward to it.

I hope you keep us updated with the filming/behind the scenes like you usually do. I really enjoy it! Thanks Hala.
Turkey is in for a long long long bloody fight with the Kurds. It will be their Vietnam.

Unless of course they dont follow the Laws of Armed Conflict and then you can just take out the long part...

Not getting where Turkey is coming from...does it want to be part of the EU or not? It banned You Tube the last week because of a Dutch Movie coming out putting Islam in a poor light. EU believes in freedom of the press...

This type of behavior/censorship by the Turkish government is unacceptable amongst its current members.
