Shirley Robertson presents CNN Internationals half-hour feature programme Main Sail, a show entirely dedicated to the leisure, travel, technology and business aspects of sailing. She is based out of London.
Robertson made history in Athens by becoming the first British woman to ever win two Gold medals at successive Olympic Games.
Since the Athens Olympics in 2004, Robertson played a major role in bringing the Olympics to London in 2012 by acting as a key ambassador and athlete delegate in Singapore.
In 2005 Robertson turned her attention away from the Olympic arena to steer a big boat as helm of Patches, an Irish TP52 skippered by her Athens coach Ian Walker.
Before joining CNN, Robertson had a regular segment presenting sailing on BBC South TV. She has also hosted BBC Scotlands Sports Saturday programme, standing in for John Beattie, and presented on BBC Grandstand.
Robertson is a board member of the Scottish Institute of Sport, an athlete-centered organization focused on supporting the development of high performance sport in Scotland and creating winners. She is also a patron of the Ellen MacArthur Trust, a charity which takes young people recovering from cancer and leukaemia sailing.
In addition to all of this, the Olympic dream is still alive; Shirley has announced she will be campaigning for that third gold medal in Beijing 2008.
